139. Lewis Becker 1860

 

An ecclesiastical map that shows the whole of Devon and Cornwall was produced by Lewis Becker for inclusion in the Transactions of the Exeter Architectural Society. It includes Lundy and Eddystone and is gridded to show Latitude and Longitude. The Archdeaconeries and the Deaneries are coloured in outline. A topographical note is below the title with the Archdeaconeries and Deaneries numbered and coloured. On the left side of the sheet, outside of the map, there is a complete list of the Parishes within the various deaneries and below the lists a note on ‘Antiquities’.

The map shows the railways to Penzance, Bideford, Paignton as well as projected railways to Kingswear, Tiverton, and Oakhampton. The L&SWR projected from Exeter to Feniton by then complete to Axminster, Plymouth to Buckland Monachorum and then projected to Tavistock.

The lists to the left of the map are not included. Map itself has new title: MAP OF DEVON AND CORNWALL. The 51° line has been largely deleted. All notes formerly below title referring to the Archdeaconries have been removed but the numbers and boundaries on map are intact. The imprint (was Ae) has been removed. The projected lines to Falmouth and Exeter-Okehampton are complete. Following lines are included; Plymouth to Okehampton and Launceston, Torquay to Kingswear, Moreton, Torrington, Ilfracombe, Seaton, DSidmouth, Hatherleigh and Holsworthy. Projected railways are Heathfield to Christow and Launceston to Pendenney.
